Job Description

Make a visible difference, every single day.

If you’re looking for an exciting and rewarding career, where you will make a genuine difference to the lives of young people, we encourage you to begin your journey with Aspris Children's Services.

Where you'll be working:

As a Maintenance Assistant, you'll be a vital member of our Estates team - based at Talocher School as a regional hub, supporting both the School and our surrounding Residential Children's Homes to create safe, nurturing environments for our young people and colleagues. We'll ensure you have everything you need, including a vehicle and appropriate tools.

  • Talocher School offers a broad and balanced curriculum, aligned to the Curriculum for Wales (CfW) for young people aged 9 to 16 years. Building trust, individual resilience, emotional regulation and communication skills is central to our ethos. We provide a caring and supportive learning environment for learners with ASD, ADHD and other associated Additional learning Needs (ALN).

  • Our children's homes are more than just a place to live, they're a place to learn, explore, and prepare for adulthood. For many of the young people we care for, living at home with their families isn't an option. Our homes offer a secure, stable, and caring environment, designed to help them grow and achieve their full potential. Our homes are warm and welcoming, offering personalised bedrooms decorated with each young person's favourite colours, themes and belongings. Our compassionate and highly-skilled colleagues build strong, trusting relationships with the children in their care, offering empathy, kindness and patience every step of the way.

We’re looking for compassionate, friendly individuals who want to give our young people the best possible chance to succeed. Does this sound like you? Then keep reading…

    You'll make a difference by:

    • Ensuring that the school and homes are maintained to a high standard.
    • Helping keep our sites safe, welcoming, and looking their best.
    • Ensuring grounds are maintained to a great standard - offering support & advice to site staff.
    • Coordinating works undertaken by external contractors as necessary.
    • Overseeing the quality of maintenance works undertaken by external contractors, ensuring that they are completed safely, in accordance with Aspris policy and statutory regulations.
    • Supporting health & safety and helping us stay audit-ready - advising and supporting the school and homes to ensure that maintenance records and compliance documentation are completed accurately.
    • Taking a pro-active, hands-on approach to keep everything running smoothly.

For a full list of responsibilities, please find the full job description attached

    About you:

    • Have a keen eye for detail and are able to effectively prioritise tasks.
    • Are able to use your initiative and can confidently work independently.
    • Have good basic numeracy & literacy skills.
    • Take a friendly, customer-focused approach with strong teamwork skills.

Experience in building, plumbing, mechanical or electrical maintenance would be a bonus, but it's not essential.

    What’s in it for you!

    • High-street and online discounts through Blue Light Card.
    • Healthcare cash plan, wellbeing support and loans.
    • An exclusive rewards and benefits platform.
    • Learning and development opportunities.
    • Refer a friend bonus scheme.
